Hi,
So a freind recently said they would drive through Mullumbimby to shop in "Bi-lo" in Ocean shores to save $10.00 . fair enough . We all live in the real world and have to spend our money wisely. Because of this this are in favour of the new WW"s in Mullum.
This same friend is trying to open a small shop in a rural area to cater for the locals . Who, if they have the same opinion as her will drive right past her "shop for locals" to Mullumbimby or Ocean shores or the new WW's to save $10.00 on the shopping bill.
It all seems very circular somehow . They also stated that the 'anti-WW's' crew are bringing it on by the law of attraction , ie "the more anti-WW's energy you put out the more it calls it (WW's) in."
It seems that she is bringing on the locals 'to not shop' in her place, if one has the same law of attraction ideas that she has.
Anyway , I'm not going to get upset anymore about this .
To be honest/rude , Australia is known to be a little backward politically . Yes I know this wont win me many friends , but this is NOT a popularity contest . How long ago did the government of this fair country recognise the Aboriginal community as human beings and when did they get the vote ? How long ago were people "shooting bungs" on the weekend ?
Its not that long ago . Some of this unenlightened backward thinking may be not too far below the surface it might seem.
Yes I know that was a little extreme of me to bring that up , but , I feel it's note worthy for us to remember where we are coming from and contemplate how long ago or not this was considered acceptable . Aussies are very proud of this country , lets keep it in perspective . For a substantial number of people this was NOT the lucky country but was the venue for their genocide.

Woolies , ouch

Balls then , yes .
So surprise surprise the supermarket giant have got their way thus far. The application to build a big box supermarket on the edge of Mullumbimby has been accepted by the Land and Environment court in Sydney . Well we always knew that they had friends in high places . but do we roll over and take it now .
No Way . they still have to build it ,staff it , open it and make it work . Anyway i dont care too much by now . "How come ?" You might ask . Well , it would seem that a lot of people wouldn't actually mind it if woolies come to town , these opinions are valid too . Then of course I don't live in town if residents in Mullum don't mind the extra traffic etc then why should I . So all in all what happens will be for the best and it affects me only a little . The other store owners in Mullum might do a bit worse but if they can't be bothered to get up and fight I certainly can't .
Interesting times all in all , lets see what happens next . A boycott? My family will if some others do . lets see how the community comes out of this one .
I don't care too much anymore .If it gets so bad round here I will just move to another place . When it becomes too main stream just move closer to the edge.

Big business would not be interested in country town until blow-ins blew in . locals now want big business rather than blow-ins , Blow-ins , blew in partially to get away from big business .
Locals see big business as progress , progress is no good if it's progressing in a bad direction .
